After studying medicine, research position in pharmacology department of Sandoz Basel leading to doctoral thesis at Basel university.Research fellow department of clinical pharmacology University College Hospital London (DR Laurence, BNC Prichard). Investigations on hypertension and angina pectoris. Setting up clinical pharmacology laboratory for cardiovascular non-invasive investigations in healthy volunteers at Experimental Therapeutics Department Sandoz (now Novartis) Basel. Developing new method for recording compliance of superficial hand veins to study drug effects and interactions. Subsequently used by many groups and reprinted in 30th Anniversary Issue of BJCP as one of its citation classics. Work on evaluation of clinical safety of new and established drugs and the methods for their analysis. Member of CIOMS working groups. Habilitation at Basel university.
